ENGL 2289 Academic Cooperative Internship

ENGL 2307 Beginning Creative Writing

Poetry Concentration. Introduction to  Writing Poetry. Prerequisite: English 1301. No previous Creative Writing is required. This course offers the opportunity to write poems and study the craft of writing  poetry. Readings vary. Coursework can be completed fully online with weekly deadlines; there are no in- person requirements. Online courses eliminate geography as a factor.

Fiction Concentration. Introduction to writing fiction. Prerequisite: English 1301. No previous Creative Writing is required. This course offers the opportunity to write prose and fiction and study the craft of writing short fiction. Readings vary. Coursework can be completed fully online with weekly deadlines; there are no in- person requirements. Online courses eliminate geography as a factor.

Screenwriting Concentration. Prerequisite:  ENGL 1301. Course instruction is online; coursework can be completed fully online with weekly deadlines. No previous Creative Writing is required. Tests may also be taken online. Some tests may require proctoring. Students can access online proctoring on their own computer for a fee of approximately $20/hour, in-person proctoring at an approved testing site that may charge a fee or in-person proctoring at an ACC Instructional Testing Center for free. Online courses eliminate geography as a factor. For MANDATORY online orientation information email the instructor during the 1st week of class.

Memoir Concentration. Prerequisite: English 1301. Flexible, asynchronous, online instruction. In this course you will study the principles of writing memoir and personal essay. We will accomplish this as a group by exploring various memoir pieces through both reading and writing. Our goals are to sharpen your writing and develop your writing voice. No textbook required. Coursework can be completed fully online with weekly deadlines. There are no in-person requirements.

Screenwriting Concentration. Prerequisite ENGL 1301.  Internet access required.

Introduction to Children’s Literature.  Focus on picture books through middle grade novels.  Prerequisite: English 1301 In this course, students will explore the world of writing stories for younger readers (picture book, early readers, chapter book and middle grade).

Forms of Literature. Prerequisite: English 1301. The study of one or more literary genres including, but not limited to, poetry, fiction, drama, and film. Other forms might include mythic and religious writing, autobiographies and memoirs, and polemics. Readings vary. Instructors are free to choose their own emphasis.

ENGL 2389 Academic Cooperative in Literary Journal Production

Editorial Internship working on student literary journal or other community projects. Prerequisite: one section of ENGL 2307, one section of English 2341, and departmental approval. Contact instructor first week of classes.

Flash Fiction Concentration. Required: ENGL 1301. Gain confidence in your unique narrative voice and write the stories only you can tell, through immersive reading of contemporary and classic works of literary fiction, lively online discussion and opinion sharing, and a deep dive into the basics of fiction writing. Course instruction is online.  Online courses eliminate geography as a factor. For MANDATORY online orientation information email the instructor during the 1st week of class.
